The price will go roughly from $53.00 to $50.00 per game, for eight games. It may just be me, but that does not seem like much of a savings:

Here's what I propose:

A playoff of the top 8 teams ranked in the BCS.
The bottom 4 teams play at the top 4 teams' home field. This provides a slight edge for the 4 teams that performed the best throughout the season and and financial gain for both teams and their conferences. To maximize TV money, one game is played on the Thursday before Christmas, the next game on that Friday and the last 2 staggered on that Saturday. This provides ample time off after conference championship games and at least 8 days rest before the next round.

The final 4 teams square off on News Years Day with the top seeds playing the lowest seeds. There would be a bidding rotation by the major bowls, such as the Rose Bowl that have traditions beyond the game on that day, to host these games. This now adds real meaning to these games.

The final game is played approximately 7 or 8 days later at a neutral site giving another bowl real meaning.

This plan will solve all the arguments of the best team, it will generate even more revenue and exposure for the universities and college football, it will maintain the integrity of certain bowls with New Year's Day traditions and it doesn't really extend the season any more than it is now. Also, with a tweak or two to the BCS formula, this will allow teams to sek tougher opponents outside their conference since teams no longer need to worry about having an undefeated season to have a shot at a National Championship.

Now let's see how this would have been applied to this year:

Penn State (8) at Oklahoma (1)
Texas Tech (7) at Florida (2)
Utah (6) at Texas (3)
USC (5) at Alabama (4)

Now here's my projection:

Oklahoma vs. Utah
Florida vs. USC

National Championship:
USC defeats Utah

Anyone have thoughts on the playoff plan or just show your projections.

The pollsters couldn't look past the mighty Big 12, flip flopping the top spots all year with Texas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech. They even had the joke called Missouri pretty high early off. In the end, they all got a taste of defense and faired horribly in the bowls. Texas got real lucky as the freshman led Buckeyes should have taken them down too.

So, what have we learned? Don't believe the hype about top scoring offenses. We need a playoff system so that when the pollsters screw up, teams like Utah and USC don't get screwed.

This year is really going to show the need for the playoff.

Texas Tech at Oklahoma - 2 weeks

I know it is a little bit early as they don't play for 2 weeks but how do you think this game is going to play out?

On the one hand Tech is stronger than they have ever been before. On the other hand Oklahoma is a very good team and beating them in Norman is very hard.

Again yesterday, they one by less than a touchdown. That is the third time this year that that has been done. While Texas Tech, on the other hand, won big over the number 9 team. Alabama should not be #1.

Who will win it all?

So we are a good way through the season. No defense and lots of scoring. With less than 2 minutes to go, Texas rallied to go ahead by 1 point. It was the classic comeback story for a #1 team. But Tech didn't let up and went right for the TD. Big win for them.

So, how down you rank the top 3? I go:

1. Alabama
2. Penn State
3. Texas Tech

Penn State has a pretty awesome squad in all 3 phases. Probably the most complete team they've had since Kerry Collins and company in '94.

I would say that about 6 of them will have a legitimate shot at #1. There are multiple teams in the Big 12 and the SEC that will knock each other out. Could Penn State sneak into the top 2 if they stay undefeated? How about Utah?

It makes me wonder if Oklahoma just isn't good to begin with. I guess they got a taste of the real world as they finally stepped out of the conference.
