Man, he's 7 back in the opening round. Is it possible Tiger doesn't win a major this year?

I need a lot of it. In addition to lessons. Looking to have a minimum of one practice session per week, preferably two or maybe even three.

So the question becomes to I get a membership to a local uncrowded par 3 course or do I get a season pass for the local driving range? To better paint the picture, the local par 3 is dead every time I have played there. We are talking no more than 3 or 4 groups on the course at a time though more often than not 1 or 2 groups is normal and occasionally I'll be the only one out on the course. Since I play fast and the majority of club members there are older and play/walk slowly, if I run up against a slow group, it can be painful.

Having an uncrowded course with no one behind me and me bumping up into people would leave the option of doing "practice" on the course. Perhaps taking three balls from the tee and playing each ball through. Or setting up some pitching and chipping around the green or putting practice while waiting for the next tee to open. Granted this would never happen if a group was behind me, regardless.

Is this frowned upon or is this type of on course practice normal? I think I would enjoy practice more out on the course (as long as I approached each shot as practice and approached it as a practice session and not a game) since it is realistic. Down side is that the course is only a par 3 and gets old quick. Course is right on the way to work whereas the range is 15 minutes away from home. So with the course, I could do a few holes before or after work without inconvenience.

Perhaps it will come down to price but I don't think the membership will be much more than the range pass. What is the protocol for "practicing" on a course, specifically when the course is empty and there are no groups behind you?

Some have speculated that since his knee has bothered him for years and his style puts so much pressure on it, that a repaired knee could actually make him better than ever. Imagine that.

Hey guys,
Woods wins his fifth Buick Invitational in six years, by eight shots, making him the prohibitive favorite to win his third U.S. Open on a course he's been playing since Junior World. What’s your take on who will hold the title this year round?
Well while you ponder on, I’ll let you onto this fantastic mobile app that I stumbled upon a few days back. This app streams live scores on to my phone, YEAH!! Perfect timing with me having to travel all the way east on business this week, I can now catch live score updates for all the games in progress, info of my favorite teams – schedules, standings, breaking news, literally everything I need to know about Golf on my phone. The latest info is automatically pushed to my phone, thus connecting me to the game no matter where I go. Adding to all this: it’s FREE; give it a shot by visiting [link=http://golf.plusmo.com/]http://golf.plusmo.com[/link] on your phone.
Especially with the US Open around the corner and Tiger Woods eyeing the title as its only thing that ever mattered to him. I have a strong feeling tournament is going to have something exceptional to look forward to with its twists along the holes.
I wouldn’t want to miss the game for the world. WOULD YOU…..

The Masters Course Changes for 2008

This from the official site:

2008 Golf Course ChangesWednesday, October 3, 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Billy Payne, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament, announced today changes to four holes, Nos. 1, 7, 9 and 11, for the 2008 Masters. In addition, other modifications were made on the grounds.

“Refinements to the golf course and grounds have been made almost every year since the Tournament’s inception and this year was no exception,” Payne said. “Overall, we are happy with the golf course. We think last year’s exceptionally high scores were an anomaly due to the frigid, windy weather.”

The changes for the 2008 Masters are:

Hole No. 1: Ten yards were added to the front of the Masters tee providing more flexibility in the event of a strong northwest wind. Back of the tee was reduced to ease patron movement. Masters scorecard remains 455 yards.

Hole No. 7: Green was changed for agronomic reasons and approximately six feet added to the left of the green allowing the possibility of 2-3 additional pin placements.

Hole No. 9: Green was changed for agronomic reasons and right pin placement softened on first and middle plateaus.

Hole No. 11: Consistent with last year, several trees were removed. The result allows for enhanced patron viewing.

Additional work throughout the course included construction of a new patron viewing area on the hillside at No. 16, further work on the new practice facility that will open in 2010, adding and extending azalea beds to increase course color and replacing grass with pine straw between Nos. 15 and 17 (pine straw was also added to the left of No. 15).

The hillside seating area is located to the left of the pond at No. 16 and will provide viewing for over 2,000 patrons. Holes that can be viewed from this location include No. 6 green, the second shot and every putt at No. 15, the green complex at No. 16 and the tee shot and second shot at No. 17.
Easy access can be gained to this area from a newly renovated back entrance. From there, patrons can travel to No. 16 hillside, No. 5 fairway or to holes Nos. 13, 14 and Amen Corner.

“We are very excited about these significant improvements for our patrons, and hope that we have made an already special experience even better,” said Payne.

My thoughts:

Tiger has more major wins and has been doing it longer against better competition. His downside is he has been beat soundly not making the cut.

Roger is just a consistent champion. He rarely loses and is generally always in the championship match. He's racked up more titles faster than any other tennis player and faster than Tiger.

For me - Tiger.
