Devils Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
It's one thing finishing your season by not getting out of the first round of the playoffs. It's another thing altogether when your exit is authored by your biggest rival. That's what the Devils are coming back from as they look to erase the pain of a five-game, first-round ouster at the hands of the New York Rangers last spring. So, when the teams got together for a preseason game in Newark, it meant something to New Jersey, and the Devils were happy with the 3-2 win. "This is still a rivalry," Zach Parise said after scoring two goals in the game. "I don't care if it's preseason. We still want to beat them." Obviously, though, there's more on the minds of this team than beating the Rangers in an exhibition game.

Avalanche Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Avalanche coaches and players like to think this team can compete for a Stanley Cup in 2008-09, but just getting into the playoffs again could be a chore. It's not that the Avalanche doesn't have some talent, but the Western Conference is loaded. "I'd say it's a lot stronger than the East," defenseman Adam Foote said. "It's been like that since probably 1995-96. It's been a long time where the West has been on top." Tony Granato is back for a second stint as Avalanche head coach. He replaced Bob Hartley as head coach in December 2002 and stepped down to return to an assistant's role in favor of Joel Quenneville after the 2003-04 season. Granato, named to the post in May after Quenneville's contract wasn't renewed, is promising a more up-tempo offensive...

Kings Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
The positive part about finishing last in the Western Conference is that things can only improve. Those looking for bright spots within the Kings can cling to that, but probably not much else this season. The Kings are even younger than 2007-08's last-place team and figure to struggle similarly this season. With strong teams such as Anaheim, Dallas and San Jose residing in the Pacific Division, the Kings, who have missed the playoffs in every season since 2002, certainly won't be favored to end that drought. There is, however, hope. It comes in the form of a strong group of prospects that is starting to take a foothold in Los Angeles, particularly among what should be a young group on defense. Tom Preissing entered training camp as the only true veteran...
