About the 2018 NIT Tournament, Teams, Games and Brackets

The 2019 Basketball Tournament, also known as the National Invitational Tournament features 32, Division 1 men's basketball teams that didn't get selected for the main March Madness tournament of 64 teams. The tournament begins on Tuesday March 19, 2019 with the first 3 rounds played at various universities. The Semi-finals will be played on Tuesday April 2, 2019 and the Championship Game will be played at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Thursday April 4, 2019. The games will be broadcast via ESPN, as well as Westwood One, ESPNU, ESPN2 and ESPN3.

The 32 men's basketball teams will be selected by committee on March 17, 2019. Teams not selected to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament but had won their conference will automatically qualify for the NIT. The remaining teams will be selected and slotted into brackets based on records and performance. There will be four tournament brackets of eight teams each.
